Day 01 Kunming
Arrive in Kunming, the Spring City of China. Located on the eastern edge of the Tibet Plateau, Kunming is blessed by wonderfully warm weather year round. Meet and transfer to the hotel.
Day 02 Kunming (B, L, D)
Today’s full day excursion takes you to the awesome Stone Forest, one of the natural wonders of Kunming, and a typical Karstic Landscape. On the way, you will thoroughly enjoy a visit to a small, quaint, typical Chinese village. There, you will mingle with the local villagers, walk through their streets and see their homes. Continue the trip to the city and visit Minority Museum.
Day 03 Kunming / Lijiang (B, L, D)
Today you start your day by taking a domestic flight to Lijiang, a small town with a spectacular mountain backdrop. Check in at the local best hotel upon arrival. After lunch, you will visit the Black Dragon Pond. Later, enjoy a visit to the Dongba Culture Exhibition Museum, which exhibits the Dongba Pictographic Characters and the Naxi Minority People’s mysterious culture, some of whom still use the matriarchal social system today. In the late afternoon, you will tour the ancient town of Dayan, recently named a World Heritage Site by the United Nations.
Day 04 Lijiang (B, L, D)
Today’s whole day tour starts with a visit to Yufeng Si, a traditional Lamasery famous for its 1000-year-old Camellia Tree. Next you will tour the Basha Naxi Minority People’s village, with contains ancient Dongba wall paintings.
Day 05 Lijiang / Shangri-La (B, L, D)
Today you will continue your deluxe motor coach trip from Lijiang to Shigu Village, located at the first bend in the Yangtze River. There, you will explore the river's tremendous Tiger Leaping Gorge, then continue on to Shangri-La, located on the edge of the Tibetan plateau. In Shangri-La, you will check in at the local best hotel.
Day 06 Shangri-La (B, L, D)
Shangri-La is a well-known city, but it is not very well known under this name. However, you will recognize the name Shangri-La. The book Lost Horizon was based on stories of events that actually happened in this little town. You will have a chance to explore Shangri-La and the surrounding Tibetan cultural areas, including the large Songzanlin Monastery, and the quaint local Tibetan farms and villages. Your next stop is the alpine Green Pagoda Lake, located an amazing 12,000 feet above sea level.
Day 07 Shangri-La / Deqen (B, L, D)
After breakfast, travel to Deqing (200 KM, 5 hours) by car. En route, visit Naxi Tibetan Village to watch the workshop of pottery in the family, Yangtze Gorge, Dongzhulin Monastery and Baimang Snow Mountain. Overnight accommodation is at the local best hotel.
Day 08 Deqen / Yanjing (B, L, D)
Drive to Yanjing that literally means Salt Well. In ancient time, Caravan usually stop there to load the precious salt that was the important commodity of Tea & Horse Trail. Drive through the Valley of Lancang River (also called Mekong River) and enjoy the awesome scenery along the road. Upon arrival, visit the ancient Salt Field and Catholic Church. After dinner, enjoy a bathing at the local hot spring and relieve the tiredness of the trip.
Day 09 Yanjing / Markam / Zogang (B, L, D)
Go on northwards along the Lancang River valley, the upper reaches of the Mekong River. After coming across the Snow Mountains, you will arrive at Markam, a small city on the important Sichuan-Tibet-Highway. Enjoy the highland farming scenery along the way. Continue the trip to Zogang. Pay a visit to the local nomadic family and share the Yak butter tea with the local Tibetans. Overnight at the guest house (local best).
Day 10 Zogang / Bamda (B, L, D)
After breakfast, you will drive along Yu-chu river valley and stop at Temto for a visit to a nice Tibetan Gelukpa monastery. The monks are extremely hospitable. By noon, you will arrive at Bamda, the junction of Northern and Southern Tibetan Highway. After lunch, you will visit Tibetan local family and share the tea with them. Overnight at the local guesthouse.
Day 11 Bamda / Lhorong (B, L, D)
Drive through the vast expense of Bamda Grassland and cross the Thanlwin River. Enjoy the beautiful view of Tibet Highland. Arrive at Lhorong that means "the river in the south" in Tibetan, and check into the local guesthouse.
Day 12 Lhorong / Bambar (B, L, D)
Continue the driving along the ancient Tea & Horse Trail. Arrive at Bambar and check into the local guesthouse.
Day 13 Bambar / Biru (B, L, D)
Continue the driving along the ancient Tea & Horse Trail. Arrive at Biru and check into the local guesthouse.
Day 14 Biru / Nagqu (B, L, D)
Depart for Nagqu, a small town on the Qinghai-Tibet-Highway, which starts from Golmud of Qinghai province and ends in Lhasa. The two main temples in Nagqu are the Zhabten Gonpa of Nyingmapa-sect and another of Gelugpa sect. Arrive at Nagqu and check into the local best hotel.
Day 15 Nagqu / Lake Namtso (B, L, D)
Drive to Lake Namtso, the holy lake in Tibet and also the highest lake in the world. Upon arrival, have a tour there and visit the local Tibetan Family.
Day 16 Lake Namtso / Lhasa (B, L, D)
After breakfast, travel to the holy city of Lhasa, capital of the mystical Buddhist Kingdom of Tibet. Locked away in its mountain fortress of the Himalayas, Tibet has long had a unique hold on the imagination of the West. Upon arrival, check into the hotel.
Day 17 Lhasa (B, L, D)
We will start off our tour of Tibet with the 15th Century Drepung Monastery and the Norbulinka, formerly the summer palace of the Dalai Lama.
Day 18 Lhasa (B, L, D)
Today's sightseeing includes the overwhelming Potala Palace, home to the Dalai Lama, and the 1300 year-old Jokhang Temple, Tibet's holiest temple. Finally we will have time to browse and shop in a fascinating market.
Day 19 Lhasa (B)
Transfer to the airport and depart. Service ends.
